The Lock Keeper

Throughout history and literature, doors have symbolised liminal spaces—the passage from one state of being to another—and an invitation to transition from the known to the unknown. They conceal truths, secrets, and guarded knowledge that, once revealed, change us forever.
Doors embody both the danger of being trapped and the hope of escape, the safety of coming home and the resolution of leaving. In therapy, the image of a door is often used to visualise stepping away from difficult situations, embracing new opportunities, or confronting fears long buried in the dark corners of our minds.
A locked door always presents a choice: to enter or to turn away. Unlocking what is locked requires not just complicity but action. In doing so, we take responsibility for both the consequences and the gifts of our decision. Sometimes, it is wiser to walk away and return another time. Sometimes, we are ready to step through. And sometimes, we have no choice.
So I introduce to you the Lock Keeper—guardian of our decisions as we stand before the physical and metaphorical doors of our lives. He is the one who asks: “Do you choose to enter?”
