In honour of Konkankoh

Konkankoh was born and raised in Bafut, Cameroon, and has dedicated his life to permaculture, ecology, youth empowerment, and Indigenous wisdom. Throughout his incredible life, he has served as an elder’s voice in many events, projects, and organisations. He speaks about “reinventing African wisdom`s place in a new thriving global culture.” [1]
I first met Konkankoh in Tamera, Portugal, when I was around 15. I was both awed and intimidated by the deep calmness he carried. He was like a planet, with a gravity that pulled you toward him—grounding you. I remember him speaking to a group of young people, flashing a huge grin as he handed out leaflets for a youth project he was involved in at the time. Over the years, I met him many times in Portugal, and our conversations about the nature of love and pain always left me feeling clearer about what truly mattered.
To me, he represents the steady presence of stone—calm, grounding, and always there to listen, to smile, and to uplift others, no matter the challenges he faces.
